K Murali Krishna, Rutaparna Panda and Debasis Mishra bagged a double each in the 3rd Nalini Kanta Mohanty Memorial State Open Badminton Tournament, which concluded here at Saheed Nagar Indoor Hall today.
After capturing the men and women singles titles respectively, Murali Krishna (East Coast Railway) and Rutaparna (Cuttack) clinched the title double by winning the mixed doubles crown as partners. Debasis won his two titles in under-19 boys singles and doubles events.
The four-day tournament, which was organised by Amateur Badminton Club (ABC), featured a total of eight events and carried a total prize fund Rs 30,000. Local duo Chittaranjan Satpathy and Ajit Kumar Mohanty won the men’s doubles title, while Ayus Pattnaik emerged champion in under-17 boys singles category.
State Sports Director Anant Kishore Jena, Olympian Anuradha Biswal, Sukinda-Angul Railway Project MD Dilip Kumar Samantray and Rajnagar MLA Anshuman Mohanty handed over the prizes in the closing ceremony. ABC president Pruthvi Ballav Pattnaik, working president Bibekananda Mishra, senior vice-president Kamal Lochan Mohanty, vice-president Biswabhanu Pattnaik, general secretary Chandi Prasad Das, joint-secretary Jayadarshi Pattnaik, treasurer Akshaya Kumar Sahoo and chief referee Manoj Kumar Sabat were present on the occasion.
RESULTS (All finals): Men singles: K Murali Krishna (ECoR) bt Swadhin Gouda 21-18, 21-16. Women singles: Rutaparna Panda (Cuttack) bt Itishree Behera 21-5, 21-9. Mens doubles: Chittaranjan Satpathy-Ajit Kumar Mohanty (Bhubaneswar) bt Kamal Das-Pramod Kumar Rana (Cuttack). Mixed doubles: Rutaparna Panda-K Murali Krishna beat K Ravi Babu-Ramsy Purty. U-19 boys singles: Debasis Mishra (Bhubaneswar) bt Arabinda Sahoo (Bolangir) 17-21, 21-14, 11-1. U-19 boys doubles: Debashis Mishra-Ashsh Sethy bt Arabinda Sahoo-Abhilas Mohapatra 23-21, 17-21, 23-21. U-17 boys singles: Ayush Pattnaik (Baripada) bt Prajesh Murmu (Bhubaneswar) 21-17, 21-17. 45+ veteran doubles: Kamal Das-Subhasish Sahoo (Cuttack) bt Chandi Prasad Das-Akshaya Kumar Sahoo (Bhubaneswar) 21-12, 21-12.
